Dogville
Taglines: A quiet little town not far from here.
In the center of America’s plot of the 30s, which was swept by a wave of crime and violence. Escaping the pursuit of gangsters, a young actress named Grace decides to hide in a small town lost somewhere among the rocky mountains called Dogville.
Having learned that the girl is hiding from the prosecution of criminals, the inhabitants of the town, in which no more than a few dozen people live, at first refuse to shelter her, fearing the reprisals of the bandits. However, after much debate, they allow the girls to stay with them. But the inhabitants put forward conditions for her, she will stay if she agrees to work and help the locals. The girl, who has no other choice, agrees to their conditions, and begins to settle down in the city.
However, at first glance, the residents of the city, who seemed naive and simple, having felt complete power over the defenseless Grace, begin to abuse their position. And their needs over time begin to increase more and more, turning the girl into his real servant. The kind and patronizing attitude towards the girl develops into a real tyranny, and Grace’s position is no worse than the position of slaves of the past. One day, a girl who has lost all rights understands that there is enough humiliation with her, and she decides to repulse the local resident who turned into a villain.
A woman on the run from the mob is reluctantly accepted in a small Colorado community in exchange for labor, but when a search visits the town she finds out that their support has a price.

Dogville: The Pilot was shot during 2001 in the pre-production phase to test whether the concept of chalk lines and sparse scenery would work. The 15-minute pilot film starred Danish actors Sidse Babett Knudsen (as Grace) and Nikolaj Lie Kaas (as Tom). Eventually Lars von Trier was happy with the overall results. As a result, he and the producers decided to move forward with the production of the feature film. The test pilot was never shown in public, but is featured on the second disc of the Dogville (2003) DVD, released in November 2003.
