The first season of the American science fiction horror drama television series Stranger Things premiered worldwide exclusively via Netflix’s streaming service on July 15, 2016. The series was created by The Duffer Brothers who are also executive producers along with Shawn Levy, and Dan Cohen.
The first season stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Cara Buono, and Matthew Modine, with Noah Schnapp, Joe Keery, and Shannon Purser in recurring roles. The first season of Stranger Things received universal acclaim, particularly for its originality, characterization, visuals, humor, and acting (particularly that of Ryder, Harbour, Wolfhard, Brown, and Modine).
When a young boy disappears, his mother, a police chief and his friends must confront terrifying supernatural forces in order to get him back.
The first season begins in November 1983, when researchers at Hawkins National Laboratory open a rift to the “Upside Down”, an alternate dimension. A monster from the Upside Down escapes and abducts a boy named Will Byers and teenage girl called Barbara. Will’s mother, Joyce, and the town’s police chief, Jim Hopper, search for Will. At the same time, a young psychokinetic girl called Eleven escapes from the laboratory and assists Will’s friends, Mike, Dustin, and Lucas, in their own efforts to find Will.
